Building a better life starts with a single message

Our compassionate experts specialize in providing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to help people manage emotions, have more fulfilling relationships, reduce suffering, and achieve greater peace. We treat adults and adolescents (aged 14 and up).

At The DBT Clinic, we are dedicated to empowering people with the tools they need to cope, connect, and thrive. Using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), we provide a safe, supportive space for growth and healing.

  • DBT is highly effective for individuals facing challenges such as:

    • Borderline Personality Disorder

    • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm

    • Intense negative emotions (e.g., anxiety, sadness)

    • Impulsive or self-damaging behaviors

    • Substance abuse or eating disorders

    • Anger management struggles

    • Relationship difficulties

    • Chronic emptiness

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a proven treatment approach for people struggling with intense emotions. It teaches practical skills to manage and transform unhelpful emotions while fostering acceptance when it is beneficial. At its core, DBT helps people strike a balance between acceptance and change, empowering them to create what we call “a life worth living.”

FAQs

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a psychological treatment that blends elements of cognitive-behavioural therapy with validation and acceptance. It is designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, reduce harmful behaviors, and improve relationships. DBT combines skills training, individual therapy, and group sessions to teach you how to balance acceptance and change in your life.

  • DBT is particularly effective for those who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, self-harm, or difficulty in relationships. If you’re unsure if DBT is right for you, we offer a brief intake call where we’ll listen to your concerns and discuss whether DBT can help meet your needs.

  • During your first session, we’ll work together to understand your current challenges and goals for therapy. Your therapist will explain the DBT process, and we’ll start discussing the skills you can use to manage difficult emotions and improve your quality of life.

  • DBT is a comprehensive program that was designed to be 24 weeks in length. Progress varies, but many clients begin to notice improvements in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and relationship dynamics within the first few months of therapy.

  • No, you do not need a referral from a doctor to begin DBT. Our program is self-referred, meaning you can reach out directly to us if you believe DBT might be helpful for you.

  • Yes, we take your privacy very seriously. All information shared in therapy is kept confidential, with the following exceptions: imminent risk of harm to yourself or another person, risk of harm to a child, information about abuse by a registered healthcare provider, or a court subpoena. We adhere to strict ethical and legal standards to ensure your safety and confidentiality.

  • DBT is distinct because it combines acceptance and change strategies, helping clients manage intense emotions while learning new coping skills. Unlike other therapies, DBT includes both individual therapy and group skills training, focusing on real-life application of skills to improve emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and distress tolerance.

  • Although your therapy is focused on you, family involvement can be beneficial. For example, we offer DBT Family Support sessions that help loved ones understand what you're going through and learn how to best support you in your journey. It is entirely your choice as to whether your loved ones are involved in your treatment. We do strongly encourage family participation for those in the Adolescent DBT Program.

  • Yes, all of our therapy services are provided online. We use Zoom for Telehealth, a secure video platform that complies with healthcare privacy laws, ensuring that your sessions are confidential and protected.

  • If you're feeling overwhelmed by intense emotions, struggling with self-harm or impulsive behaviors, or having difficulty in relationships, DBT may be right for you. Our intake process helps assess whether DBT is a good fit for your needs. You can reach out when you’re ready, and we’ll support you through the decision-making process.

You are not defined by your suffering. Change, acceptance, and progress are possible.
